Phonics: Phase 1

Phase 1 allows children to become aware of the sounds they hear in their immediate environments, as well as the sounds they can create themselves, using their body or instruments. There is a focus on developing the children’s speaking and listening skills. Phase one is divided into seven aspects which looks at environmental, instrumental, body and voice sounds, rhythm, rhyme and alliteration. It also teaches children oral blending and segmenting in words.
