In February the whole school took part in a competition organised by the register charity ‘Show Racism the Red Card’.
It’s a powerful and fun way to engage the staff, governors, parents and children’s interest in anti-racism. The charity’s aims are to enable young children to understand the causes and consequences of racism using professional footballers as anti-racist role models. At school we focused on celebrating cultural diversity and developing our school’s ethos ‘We are all different, We are all special, We can all achieve’.
A poster made by six children in Penguin class was chosen as the overall winner for the school and was entered into the national competition. Over 900 schools took part in this year’s competition and the poster was awarded second prize in the Year 1-4 art and creative writing category.
The 6 children, parents and staff, proudly attended the Awards Ceremony that was held at Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club on Tuesday 28th April. The ceremony featured current and former professional footballers. The children, parents and staff were very proud to win once again and attend such a prestigious event. Although it was a very long journey we all had a day to remember.
